And you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow."

Prayers to find a home FAQ

Is there a patron saint for finding a home?

In Catholic tradition, St. Joseph is the patron saint of families and homes, and many Catholics pray to him when house hunting because he found shelter for Mary and Jesus. Some also ask St. Anthony, the patron of lost things. This is church tradition rather than a teaching of Scripture. The Bible invites every believer to bring requests straight to God: "in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God" (Philippians 4:6).

What should I do while I wait for a home?

Keep praying, keep searching, and give the stress to God. Paul's promise is that when you pray with thanksgiving, "the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:7). Jesus said not to carry worry about tomorrow either (Matthew 6:34). Peter tells us to cast every care on God because He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7).

What Bible verse says God will give me a home?

Isaiah 32:18 promises God's people "peaceful dwelling places" and "secure homes," and Psalm 68:6 says "God sets the lonely in families." The deepest promise is the home that never ends. Jesus said, "My Father's house has many rooms... I am going there to prepare a place for you" (John 14:2), and David ended Psalm 23 with "I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever." To keep that whole psalm on your wall, see this Psalm 23 art for your home.
