14 Bible Verses For Blessing A New House

God is described in scriptures as the chief cornerstone and a foundation built on Him cannot be shaken. There are many majestic buildings that are expertly constructed by skilled architects; however the most reliable house construction is one that is built under the wisdom and guidance from God.

These fourteen bible verses about blessing a house will seek to guide you as you develop a deeper love and appreciation for the master builder.

Psalms 127:1 NIV images pictures quotes

1. Unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless he LORD watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain. Psalms 127:1 niv

When Solomon chose to erect the house of the Lord, he was instructed by his father David to include God in his plans. This is necessary as building takes labour and effort and building without God is meaningless.

Even though Solomon had constructed palaces and castles, he was cautioned about excluding God from his plans as a foundation without God’s guidance can easily crumble.

This verse in scripture demonstrates that even with the involvement of architects who are very knowledgeable in their field, these buildings can collapse if they are built without the guidance of the chief architect.

We should be guided by this pattern in building our houses as a solid foundation is vital in providing protection and stability.

Proverbs 24:3-4 NIV images pictures quotes

2. By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures. Proverbs 24:3-4 niv

Building a house takes wisdom and ingenuity. The wise King Solomon seeks to guide individuals in cautioning them that in constructing a house, it is important to avoid the use of inferior material or cheap labour or fixtures that can compromise the quality of the building.

It also requires wisdom to maintain a house as a lack of good care and maintenance can cause degradation or disrepair.

It is wise to seek the Lord for insight and guidance.

God is interested in all the affairs of our lives and even in daily maintenance and furnishing, His involvement is paramount in having a beautiful and well maintained structure.

2 Chronicles 7:15-16 NIV images pictures quotes

Solomon demonstrated the importance of seeking God in prayer in blessing, not just the house of the Lord, but also his personal dwelling.

It is by seeking God that Solomon was able to experience God’s grace and prosperity.

God’s abiding presence will always be with us when we seek Him in first dedicating our houses to Him.

We must not leave our houses exposed to the attacks of the evil one but first seek God in protecting the perimeters of our houses. Inviting the presence of the Lord will provide peace, love and harmony in the home.

This figurative expression is likened unto the wisdom and strength gained when one stands firmly in obedience to the word of God.

This expression is used appropriately as a house that is built with substandard materials can easily be destroyed by the natural elements such as the storms, wind and rain.

The house that is built with materials of strength and durability will be able to stand firmly amidst the currents of life.

We are encouraged to build our houses on a firm foundation with the right strength, structure and dimensions.

We too can trust God to protect us as we rest in His love for us knowing that we are guarded from the attacks of the enemy. God knows the plans that He has for all of us, He also knows all the plans of the enemy and as a result He wants us to dedicate our dwelling place to Him, so that He can cover us with His shield of protection.

There is nothing as comforting as the presence of God in our house. When we invite Him in our homes on a daily basis and also through the housewarming exercise, He’ll then give sweet peace and assurance.

By this we know that we are sheltered from harm as we are surrounded by God’s mighty arms of love and care.

His desire is to see individuals reside in a structure where they can be confident knowing that the abiding presence of God would always be with them.   A tranquil environment filled with God’s abiding presence speaks of the goodness of God towards His people.

The acquisition of a house is a tremendous blessing and having the assurance of God’s protection makes it an even more comfortable dwelling.

When we are aware of God’s encircling protection around our house, we can rest comfortable knowing that we are not alone.

This acknowledgement from David is a fulfillment of God’s promise and he gives glory to God for the manifestation of his favour in his life. David penned these words as a reminder to us of the importance of expressing gratitude to God for His many blessings in our lives.

We might sometimes boast in our capabilities and resources in finally owning a house, but nothing that we acquire is gained in our own strength. God is the giver of all good gifts.

God is our source of strength and all the resources that we utilize in building our houses are gained through the consistency of His daily provisions which he continues to outpour on us.

Many can even testify of how God led them in this house project so that they can now be grateful for its successful completion.

 13. I have indeed built a magnificent temple for you, a place for you to dwell forever.1 Kings 8:13 niv

Solomon’s dedication of the temple in Jerusalem was even more significant than the actual building of the temple. The dedication of the holy edifice as outlined in this verse showed great appreciation and reverence to God.

In celebration of God’s provision, persons, including the priest gathered and offered sacrifices to God as they prayed for His abiding presence, not just for that moment but that God’s presence will dwell with them forever.

This scripture admonishes us to dedicate our house to God and pray that His continuous presence will abide in our homes forever.

It is also good to invite members of the clergy, friends and families to share in this momentous and joyful experience as adoration and praise are expressed to the Almighty God.

Joshua 24:15 NIV images pictures quotes

14. But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD. Joshua 24:15 niv

This verse in scripture focuses on showing full allegiance to God. It is always important to allow persons to make choices and here Joshua is boldly expressing the choice he has taken for himself and his household.

Joshua had experienced God’s mighty power in his life, and having a firm purpose in deciding to serve God was the best decision he could have taken in representing Christ.

Joshua knew that having a personal relationship with God will ensure the physical and spiritual well-being of himself and his family as they dwell in their home.

Owning a house is a significant achievement and God wants us to celebrate this special milestone. God values the happiness of His children as they experience this great accomplishment.

Throughout the scriptures we also realize that building a house or a temple for the Lord was done methodically under the guidance of God. Let us continue to build not just our houses, but our lives on Him.

A house is where God longs to dwell as the safety and comfort of His children are important to Him.

Seeking God’s blessings first and foremost is an awesome decision that far exceeds the approval from friends and families, who will commend you on the great design and furnishings.

God wants to guard your house so that it will be impenetrable to the enemy. May each door you open reminds you that Jesus Christ is the door who offers salvation and a safe pasture (John 10:9).

May each window you gaze through encourage you to trust God as He continues to pour out His daily blessings (Malachi 3:10). As you open your gate to invite others to your home, may you look forward to the day when you will enter by the gates of the city (Rev 22:11) where you will reign and live forever with Jesus in His heavenly home.

May God continually bless your beautiful home. May each family member and visitor who enter your dwelling experience God’s love, warmth and His amazing presence.

May it also be a place of peace, happiness and contentment.

Congratulations! Happy housewarming.
